Autumn Candles That Make Scents

Good morning guys. I hope you all enjoyed your extra hour in bed. I thought I would write a blog post about autumnal candles and I am really excited to bring you candles from a couple of smaller businesses as well as from a bigger well known store.

Autumn for me is my favourite season of the year. I love the colours, the fashion, the comfort food and most of all the smells. Filling my home with an autumnal scent makes me so happy and really creates that cosy feeling in the house. Therefore, what better blog post to bring you than a few of my favourite candles for this autumn.

First up is this amazing ‘Fireside’ vegan candle from Studiofortyseven. I have followed Stacie on Instagram for a while now this year, during lockdown, she started her candle business. The name of the candle definitely sold me and it is a smoky blend of woody amber, patchouli, spicy notes of incense and herbal floral hints of jasmine and violet. It might not be for everyone but I love it.

Next up is this gorgeous spiced orange and clove soy candle from the brilliant Cicely & May. I have worked with Kirsteen before and she is such a lovely lady! The second I lit this candle, I knew it would instantly fill my home with a festive scent. It is a classic Christmas smell with warming cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cloves combined with orange and mandarin. I also love the packaging. (This product was gifted).

Lastly, I bought this candle from H&M Home in a little Christmas haul. It has a lovely subtle scent to it – perhaps too subtle for my liking. It is a little smaller than the other two and like I said, not as pungent. I liked the way it looked and it just sits on our kitchen table for dinner time.

I hope that you enjoyed this little blog about autumnal scents. I have really enjoyed putting it together. I would just stress again, if you want something to really fill your home then the candles from Studiofortyseven and Cicely & May are definitely a must. For something a little more subtle, the H&M candles are for you.

Enjoy your Sunday x

July Favourites

Good evening guys. Happy Wednesday! I thought I would keep up with my ‘favourites’ blog post and do one for July. As always, there are lots of different things on this list from favourite hair care to a TV series. This is a bit of a long, chatty blog post so I hope you enjoy it.

First up is the NOUGHTY To The Rescue Intense Moisture Treatment Mask. I was kindly gifted some Noughty shampoo and conditioner previously and loved the products so much that I bought the mask myself to try it. I picked it up on Amazon for about £7 I think. I don’t have a hair appointment booked until the middle of August so I wanted to find something deeply hydrating and after just one use, I could see and feel a huge difference. The shampoo and conditioner is also absolutely amazing. The brand is fantastic with their range of products being 97% natural and they always consider sustainability. All of their hair care products are cruelty free and vegan. I can’t believe I had never heard of this brand before. If you are after quality and hair care that is a bit of a treat but won’t break the bank then Noughty is for you.

I recently moved in with my other half during lockdown. Now lockdown is over, I have found myself staying after he asked me to move in with him! To celebrate, we decided to buy some new bedding from a company called Beddable We opted for the navy striped core bedding set where you get the duvet cover, fitted sheet and two pillowcases. Now this was on the pricey side and the reason why we went for something a little bit more luxurious was purely for quality reasons. We also didn’t want something that would date so this classic stripe was perfect for us. When the bedding came it was packaged really nicely with a thank you card and care instructions to wash before use. They even included a face mask which was so lovely. Whilst we are on the subject of bedding, we also bought two new pillows from The White Company in the sale and some pillow cases and pillow protectors from Tesco. Head on over to my Instagram and keep your eyes peeled for the big bedroom reveal very soon.

Let’s talk about gold jewellery. I recently made the switch from silver to gold – not for any particular reason other than with my skintone I think gold looks nicer. When I was engaged previously I had a platinum ring but if I was to ever get engaged again I would definitely want something gold. This necklace was in the sale in Accessorize and I am obsessed with it. I was wondering how long it would take me to get into the whole gold choker charm necklace trend and now I have one, I want another! This was super cheap in the sale and I got it for £5 with postage! Top is from Monsoon. Blooming gorgeous!

If you don’t know what Jamshed is, where have you been? I saw that @inthefrow had recommended this in some of her vlogs and I tried to find it everywhere during lockdown without any success. After popping into Tesco to a weekly shop it was there, staring at me so I picked up a bottle and six bottles later, we love it. In my opinion it is a really easy drinking red and even chilled, it is delicious! Best consumed wearing a dressing gown with your feet up.

I feel like I have to talk about this just because I have been so into it, but ‘Married at First Sight Australia’ has been annoyingly addictive! I am not going to lie – I am a bit of a rubbish TV lover. I had seen snippets of this programme when they did a UK season so I decided to put on the first episode of the Australian version and I was hooked. Not to mention, my other half would chip in with comments now and again, pretending he wasn’t interested but really was hehe. If you fancy a binge watch then the first 10 episodes are on 4OD!

I might have a slight basket problem. Honestly, moving in has been such a joy and it has been lovely looking for bits together to add to his home but how many baskets does one girl need!? I love these seagrass baskets. I use one as a bedside table alternative which is just super cute and easy to use, one houses our candles and room sprays, one is for extra bedding and the other is in the living room where our cables live to hide them away from sight. I need to stop buying them! I do manage to find them quite cheaply online or in Dunelm. Anyone else obsessed with baskets!? HELP! These ones photographed below are from Tesco but you will have to pop on over to my Instagram to see those when they arrive.

Anyway, I have rambled on far too much! Sending loads of love to all of you and I hope you have a fantastic evening. X

May Favourites

Good afternoon lovely people. I hope that you are all OK. Someone suggested doing a favourites posting each month. I can’t promise one every month but I have certainly got a few favourites for May.

First up is Aveeno. This is hands down the best moisturiser I have ever used. I use this after showering every day and I love how it doesn’t have a scent. Sometimes I find scented moisturisers can be a bit overpowering. Perfect for every day.

Next up is the ‘Sleep Better Pillow Mist’ from Tisserand. I actually bought this a few months ago for my partner as he finds it difficult to get to sleep sometimes but we have both been using this recently. This dreamy blend combines 100% natural pure essential oils of soothing Lavender, warming Sandalwood and calming Jasmine. It has really helped us both to switch off before sleep.

Roku Gin. If you love gin then you need to try this one! This is one of my new favourite gins (as you can see by the almost empty bottle). This Japanese craft gin has a meticulous balance of flavours. I found this on their website which I thought might be helpful if you want to know what it tastes like.

Nose : Cherry blossom and green tea provide a floral and sweet aroma.
Palate : Complex, multi layered, yet harmonious flavour of various botanicals. Traditional gin taste in the base, plus characteristic Japanese botanical notes with yuzu as the top note. Smooth and silky texture.
Finish : The crisp Japanese sansho pepper brings a little spiciness to the finish.

To go alongside the Roku Gin, I bought this lovely tin of botanicals and spices from Amazon as a gift for my other half for our anniversary. It comes with 19 ingredients including orange and lemon peel, juniper berries, allspice, rose petals, fennel seeds, cardamom, coriander, pink peppercorn, lemon grass, coffee beans and many more. The tin also comes with recommended recipes to help you zhuzh up your gin.

I am a big fan of a nude nail and that classic look. My favourite nude recently ran out and I can only get it again from Germany so I was on the lookout for a new shade. I found ‘Such A Re-Leaf’ by Nails Inc and I am in love. It is the perfect nude and layers up well.

Continuing on with the subject of hands and nails, with all of this hand washing I am sure we are all in the same boat with how dry and painful our hands have become. I  wanted a moisturiser that was affordable or every day use. Neutrogena Hand & Nail did not disappoint. I found this on Amazon and it’s been amazing after every hand wash. It isn’t sticky or too oily which I can’t stand.

For those days at home when you can’t be bothered but feel like you should try and make some sort of an effort, Glow Cherie by L’Oreal is my go-to glow. I have been using this for months now and I can’t recommend it enough. Good job I have a spare because the in the photograph has definitely been very loved!

Finally, as a new runner I wanted some good headphones that would stay in my ears. I found these over the ear ones from JVC and tried them out yesterday. They are super comfortable and the sound is great. I am one happy customer!

Two more things that aren’t in the photograph – the books ‘The Librarian of Auschwitz’ by Antonio Iturbeand ‘The Cows’ by Dawn O’Porter have been two great reads this month that I have really not been able to put down. When it comes to TV, we binge watched Ozark and I have just started Desperate Housewives again from the start.

Happy Sunday everyone ❤️

High Street Glow

Happy Sunday gang! I hope everyone has had a great weekend. ♥️

Whenever I think about makeup, I think about how to get that glow. I have written a couple of blog posts about different makeup routines trying out different products but this is my every day go-to makeup look.

I have been using these same products now for months and they are all from the high street. As much as I would love to use higher end products, my bank balance just doesn’t stretch that far I am afraid. If you want an affordable glowy makeup routine then here are some incredible products that won’t let you down.

First up, Glow Cherie from L’Oreal Paris. Before I even found this, I was using Bonjour Sunshine Liquid Bronzer by L’Oreal – equally as amazing. Glow Cherie wakes up your skin with a luminous, radiant glow. This hydrating skin enhancer covers imperfections and skin instantly appears healthier and glowing. Sometimes I only wear this!

If I want that extra glowy, dewy look then I put a pump of Glow Cherie mixed with No 7’s Skin Illuminator and Miracle Glow from Max Factor. This combination is flawless. All of these products can be used on their own but I love mixing them together.

The concealer I have been using for years now is L’Oreal’s True Match The One in shade Ivory. The coverage is great and really covers up those dark circles and blemishes.

With four pigmented shades, L’Oreal Paris La Vie En Glow Highlighting Palette is a must have addition to anyone’s makeup bag. The colours in the palette are warming on the skin and give you that radiance.

Let’s talk about Iconic London. I have been using the original illuminating drops for about three years now and I am still obsessed. You only need a tiny bit and you have cheek bones for days.

Finally, 24h Eyeshadow from Bourjois in shade Beige brings the look together. You know those makeup tutorials we all watch with the inner eye highlight? Look no further! Admittedly, this is a new addition to my makeup bag but I am loving it so far.

You can pick these products up anywhere – on the high street, on Amazon and on Ebay brand new. If you want that long lasting glowy look, I can say that I have tried and tested them all and that my daily makeup routine is easy, gorgeous and most importantly affordable. ✨

A Big Decision

Social media. Our use of it can affect how authentic and how honest and true to ourselves we really are. I have written about this topic before on my blog and I’m going to write about it again.

I have been ‘instagramming’ for four months now. It’s been exciting, fun, hard work and really difficult all at once. I have been so lucky to work with brands and companies receiving gifted items and creating content has been so enjoyable. For the most part, my social media experience has been positive so far.

Two mornings ago I woke up and logged onto Instagram. For the first time I had a feeling of dread. I knew I was going to spend the next fifteen to thirty minutes scrolling through my feed, engaging on pages and in comments and I just didn’t want to do it. It felt like a chore. But I just carried on as normal and posted my daily photos and engaged with my feed. Mistake.

It took me a couple of days to really decide that actually I wasn’t happy with doing that anymore. I wanted to engage with content I truly loved and creators who I know by name and who I can chat with in the comments section. Queue the cull.

There are so many reasons to create content and lots of people use the platform in a positive way. However, there is such a dark side that no one seems to really chat about that openly. If people on Instagram tell you they don’t watch their followers count like a hawk, they are lying. I have had numerous chats on Instagram with lovely ladies about how it has affected their mood, their mental health and actually what is all that for? Honestly the feeling of your follower count increasing is great but not at the expense of your day-to-day reality and your happiness.

So what’s my point? My point is that we should be doing less scrolling and more living. ♥️

My Someone

Over the past three months I have opened up my heart to someone who has shown me love, kindness and support. Every day this someone makes me smile. Every day this someone teaches me new things. Every day this someone makes my heart full. ❣

When my ex broke off our engagement, a close friend said to me ‘One day it will all make sense. You will understand why this has happened and you will find the right someone.’ Boy were they right.

The Game of The Gram

It’s been about 9 weeks since I started blogging and creating content on Instagram. In 9 weeks I have learnt a lot and how scary it really can be.

I decided to use social media as an outlet after some big changes happened in my life. I never thought it would be about the number of followers I had – it was about doing what I love which is sharing outfit pictures, talking about new products and just telling my story. But you don’t realise how much of a game Instagram is until you start playing.

My favourite game is ‘Follow Unfollow’. The amount of followers you have and how many you are losing can become an obsession. At the start of my journey, I definitely checked my followers count more than I should have done. I think the most followers I gained in one day was around 150, all of which I lost the very next day. I quickly started to realise how much of game it all was and one I just wasn’t prepared to join in with. I decided to only engage with accounts I really liked and those that inspired me and grow organically.

I have felt quite overwhelmed since starting my account. It takes up a lot of time engaging with fellow creators. Researching new hashtags, looking at your reach, talking about your account to your friends who think you’ve gone crazy, questioning why one of your photos didn’t do as well as others. When you really stop and think about how much time you have spent doing all of the above, it’s quite shocking. Put it into perspective.

Creating content, taking photographs and finding amazing accounts are all parts of Instagram I really enjoy. On the flip side, it can also be a dark place where individuals can get lost in the air brushing and body morphing. I scroll through Instagram and see account after account of these beautiful young women who feel the need to look ‘perfect’ and ‘Insta-ready’.

Reality check. Nobody is perfect and no one ever will be. It’s about loving who you really are – not the version of yourself you are sharing on Instagram.

For me, Instagram has been a learning curve. I will continue to create content for as long as I enjoy it and hopefully those who engage with me continue to like what I do. I have also met some incredible women and I am very grateful for that.

A Bad Day

Have you ever had one of those days where you feel super flat and you can’t pin point why?🤷🏽‍♀️

Tomorrow, I have been home for a whole month. It’s flown by and it’s pretty crazy that an entire month has passed to be honest.

Don’t get me wrong – I am feeling very positive about what is yet to come but the unknown is kind of scary. I keep trying to push everything I have recently gone through to the back of my mind: moving country, a broken engagement and trying to find a new job. Perhaps that is where I am going wrong. Instead of pushing it out, I need to be embracing the change. Easier said than done on a bad day. (Not to mention I feel quite hormonal right now!)

Very good things are starting to happen in all areas of my life. Some are very lovely but unexpected and I am looking forward to the next adventures.

Just Go With It…

Over the past week I have really enjoyed just being home. I feel happier than ever and I have accepted what happened with my ex and I can move on. Nothing ever happens like you imagine it will. And that is OK.

I’m looking forward to reconnecting with old friends, meeting new people, seeing new places and just going with the flow.

“Sometimes we need to stop analyzing the past, stop planning the future, stop figuring out precisely how we feel, stop deciding exactly what we want, and just see what happens.” – Carrie Bradshaw

Now, can someone pass the gin please?

The Chase

Texting back days later, wondering when or if he will call…frankly I’m not quite sure I have the time and patience for it all. But is the chase just part of being single?

There’s that lovely thing that happens when you meet someone new that you quite fancy. We have all been there with the prolonged eye contact, the flirting and the butterflies with an accidental touch of a hand. Does all of that come hand in hand with the thrill of the chase?

Being a woman in her late twenties who is pretty sure she knows what she wants, I can’t say I would entertain anything I’m not interested in. But sometimes there are storms you run from and sometimes there are storms you chase.
