Decorating for Christmas

*since writing this blog post about a week ago, I caved and bought an artificial tree 🤦🏽‍♀️

Good evening everyone and happy weekend! I hope that you have all had a good Saturday. We are hunkering down with some blankets and hot chocolate before dinner, all the candles are lit and a festive playlist is on.

I asked over on my Instagram what you wanted to see next on the blog and you were all keen on a Christmas decorations post. This will be a long one so without further ado, here it is…🎄 *some items have been gifted

The Tree

This year we have decided to buy a real tree. This will be my first real tree as an adult and I am really looking forward to it. I know real trees aren’t for everybody – I know some of you like to put up your trees in November – but for us, I think it might become a new tradition. Last year we had a slim line artificial tree and I decorated it in a very ‘Instagram’ way really. That will not be the case this year. I have been fortunate enough to work with a number of brands on Christmas tree decorations this year but we have also enjoyed picking baubles and ornaments together which has been really lovely.

Biggie Best at Christmas

I am working with a company quite local to me in Cirencester called Biggie Best. Their Christmas shop is beautiful and I thought I would share with you the pieces I have in my home this season. This artificial tree is currently sitting on a side table in our kitchen and I have wrapped this tin star garland around it. The heart garland is being used as a Christmas card hanger over our sink in the kitchen which I attached with some little hooks and some twine.

These tree decorations are so beautiful and perfect for our home. Whilst I am going for that more traditional tree this year, I have been hugely inspired by Scandinavian and Nordic design when picking pieces for this season. I just love this ornament with the bell on! You can shop Christmas bits here at Biggie Best https://www.biggiebest.co.uk/christmas A huge thank you to Biggie Best for working with me ❤

Decorating Our Home

Last year, Christmas was in my first home which I was going through the process of buying with Mr RV and even though we couldn’t see family and it wasn’t what we were both used to, it was still lovely to have our first Christmas together. I was new to the Instagram thing with regards to interiors and I just wanted my tree to be ‘Instagrammable’. Like I said above, that will not be happening this year. I want my home to be exactly how I want it to be at this time of year instead of what the internet expects it to be. So yes, I have some whacky decorations and no it won’t all match and look perfect.

Festive foliage is something I adore in a home at Christmas. I prefer real flowers as I am fussy with faux. I have been after some faux berry sprays for a while and I eventually found some gorgeous ones on Country Interiors which I can’t wait to get my hands on. I have also found some great festive candles in Waitrose, HomeSense and over at Iggybox Candles *brand ambassador

Gisela Graham was kind enough to gift me some items this year too and I shared them over on my Instagram stories. I also have a discount code so on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/rebeccaavalentina/

It might also be worth mentioning that I did a campaign for Marks and Spencer too over on Instagram. I’ll pop the image here in case you see anything you fancy…

Christmas Inspiration

I have clocked up some hours in Pinterest over the past few weeks let me tell you. Here are some of my favourite pins I have saved as inspiration for our home this Christmas 🎅

And that’s a wrap on this blog post. You’ll have to wait a few more weeks until Christmas content appears over on my Instagram I’m afraid. I’ve already seen so many trees up! Have a lovely evening 🎁

Autumn Styling – Bags & Blazers

Morning guys and the sun is shining! ☀️ My washing is on the line, I am on iced coffee number two and ‘Changing Rooms’ is on in the background. I promised you all over on my Instagram that I would do a series of autumn styling blog posts this season so here is the first one. This post is all about the staple black blazer and your brown and black handbags. Pairing them with dresses or items you already own is so easy for autumn.

Some items in this blog post are pr products and will be shown with a *

This black blazer was an eBay find and is a never worn Karen Millen tailored number. It’s such a classic piece for the autumn/winter wardrobe and there are always so many out there on the high street to choose from. I paid less than £10 including postage for this bargain and it is perfect. I have also ordered an oversized black shacket which I will feature in another styling post or over on my Instagram and for me, the blazer and shacket are enough in my opinion for a colder season wardrobe. This bag is from a gorgeous brand called Fenella Smith London* and it is a great transitional piece from day to night. On the left, this black and white shirt dress is a very recent purchase from the Warehouse sale and the dress on the right is a navy blue print M&S dress. They are both midi length and also have long sleeves.

Still featuring the bag are these two outfits. On the left is another M&S dress which again is a midi length but with shorter sleeves and on the right is this beautiful Warehouse dress. All of these dresses (and many more in my wardrobe) look great with this black blazer and bag from Fenella Smith London and I can’t wait to start wearing these outfits in the coming weeks.

These two autumnal outfits feature the Fitzwilliam bag from Fairfax & Favor*. This has been such a staple piece for me even throughout summer and looks great with all outfits. Both of these dresses are from Crew Clothing* and look perfect styled up with the brown leather and suede bag.

You don’t need to buy a lot of new items for seasonal styling. I have invested in classic pieces for this year which I know will work with items I already own. I have told myself to not buy another floral dress this season and instead be on the look out for neutrals and blacks. This way I can wear some of the more transitional dresses I own all year round with the right jacket and accessories.

Have a great sunny Thursday 🤍

A Timeless Wardrobe – Dress Edition

Good afternoon and what a rainy Sunday it is! 🌧️ My garden is certainly enjoying this rain however I am not and just want to wear some of the summer dresses I am going to mention in my blog post today.

I asked over on my Instagram what you wanted to read next on the blog and it was a toss up between this blog post and one all about garden party dresses. I thought that garden parties could wait seeing as this weather isn’t bringing the summer vibes! Therefore, here it is – how to create a timeless wardrobe when picking dresses. I’m going to give you some tips when choosing the right dress and talk about how I select mine. *This post contains PR products and all dresses are tagged over on my Instagram.

My dress collection is what you can see on the left in the image above. It used to be larger but I found I was just wearing the same items over and over again and I much preferred to do that. I am extremely fortunate to have worked with a number of brands like Oliver Bonas, Crew Clothing and Phase Eight where I receive items and in turn, take photographs for you guys and show you how I style the pieces up. But how do you create that timeless collection?

It has taken me years to get my dresses right but I finally started to pick pieces that work with my body shape and height. I am only 5″3 and have a long torso rather than long legs. Therefore, a midi dress is way more flattering on me than a mini. I also can’t just eat anything anymore and not see it appear somewhere on my body so I think about the areas I prefer to cover up and for me that’s my tummy and my arms. Instead, I am quite busty so I tend to accentuate that area with the style of dress I choose – a cinched-in-waist or elasticated bust works really well for me 📷

Colours and prints are something to be really mindful of. I have always been a ditsy print kind of girl and in my wardrobe I have a whole heap of different coloured dresses from reds and purples to blacks and pinks. My go-to colours are blues and greens as they complement my accessories more. I have one trench coat which is a print and I would wear that with all of my dresses, regardless of clashing prints. My shoes and trainers are extremely minimalistic and can be worn with anything too.

Less is more. I am extremely conscious of the amount of dresses I accumulate. Like I mentioned before, I am very lucky to work with brands as part of my content creation. In the past, I have turned down partnerships and collaborations if it wasn’t something I would wear over and over again. Yes, I post midi dresses over on my Instagram account but it isn’t realistic to have a new dress every other day! Who has the money for that? 💰 For me, to create that timeless collection, you need to be really sure about a piece – invest in longer term items rather than fast fashion.

It took me a while and only now at the age of 30 do I feel confident and comfortable in my wardrobe. I also choose my dresses thinking about all seasons and qill only pick it if I can see myself wearing it in every kind of weather. Can I style it up with boots aswell as sneakers? Will it work with a jumper layered over the top or a chunky knit?

Finally, I’m less influenced by others’ choices and happier in what I already have and I think that is key to creating a timeless collection. Don’t get me wrong, I am the first to put my hand up and admit to having done this A LOT in the past but I guess my priorities are different now and I’ve been gardening and styling my home. Fashion has taken a bit of a back seat and I’m more than OK with that.

Whilst I give this advice, I’m no expert and honestly, like I said, it has taken me years to get to this point with my wardrobe and I would still reassess some of my choices even now. I still don’t own a little black dress! Creating a timeless dress collection is a journey. Enjoy it – dress for your body shape, choose colours and prints you love, pick versatile pieces and enjoy what you have!

Happy Sunday guys x

Dress-ing for Spring

Good morning guys and what better way to kick start #sundaysstyledinspo over on Instagram with a new blog post all about dresses for spring. I asked you all what you wanted to see next on the blog and it was unanimous – dresses!

In this blog post I have picked my favourite dresses for spring. Some of the dresses are pieces I own and are therefore perhaps a season or two old but I have also found new in dresses from brands which I love *adds to basket!

This blog post does not contain affiliate links.

First up is Marks and Spencer.

(From left to right) This gorgeous floral print is vibrant I adore the paisley pattern. I love the sleeves and the fact that it synchs you in at the waist. Product code: T533365U. The Yolke Midi Dress is a last season piece and one I was really excited to get out again this spring. It is so flattering with the puff sleeves and the elasticated waist. I have seen a few of these dresses floating around on eBay but don’t get caught out with the prices. Kate Middleton wore this and that has meant prices have sky rocketed! Finally, this printed dress is a recent addition to my wardrobe. I love the colours and the tiered skirt. I did pop a stitch in the front as it was a little too open for me. Unfortunately this is out of stock at the moment but again, it is always worth checking sites like Ebay. Product code: T533395U

Next up, H&M.

(From left to right) In my opinion, H&M has some of the best floral dresses for spring this season. One of my new favourites is this blue calf-length dress. You will have seen this dress featured so many times on my Instagram. I love the sleeves and the stand-up collar. Product code: .0942418001. This dress is in my basket! I love a smock dress and this print is just beautiful. I love the cuffs and the neckline too. Product code: 0861847004. I fell in love with the colours of this last dress. The trim detailing is so pretty and such a great dress that could easily transition between day and night. Product code: 0946450002.

(From left to right) Love & Roses is a new brand featured on Next. I have a beautiful cardigan from them and when I saw this dress I instantly fell in love. I love the tiers and the smock style. Product code: R08-905. Fat Face always do great dresses and this cornflower blue dress is divine – such a great colour for spring. Product code: 960738. This dress from Warehouse has been one of my go-to dresses so far this year. I love the shape, the print and how easy it is to wear. Product code: AWW99668.

I hope that some of these picks have inspired you. I can’t wait for warmer weather and to be able to sit in gardens with friends and family wearing these gorgeous spring dresses! Have a good Sunday x

Christmas Gifts This Year

Good morning everyone and I hope you all had a lovely Christmas. For us, it wasn’t what we both had planned but it meant we spent it together in our home with Atty for the first time. We drank lots, ate far too much and went on a wonderful Christmas walk.

Over on my Instagram you guys said you would be interested in seeing what I got for Christmas this year so without further ado, let’s get into the blog post.

*There are no affiliate links in this blog post.

I was extremely spoilt by Mr RV this year with this gorgeous Nuuk Parka coat from Fjallraven. I have always loved this brand but I don’t think I have ever mentioned it before to Mr RV so this was a complete surprise! I wore it out on our Christmas walk yesterday and I am in love. It is super warm, so stylish, so practical and just perfect for all of the walks we go on the countryside around us. A forever coat!

These boots are from Marks and Spencer and are the ‘Leather Hiker Ankle Boots’. You can shop them here. I love how chunky and smart they are. I have a few pairs of boots from M&S and they are always such a great fit and last for many seasons. I am so happy to add these to my collection of winter footwear and can’t wait to wear them out and about…I mean for now, I might just wear them around the house!

Now, these crystal glasses are something Mr RV and I have both wanted for such a long time. We love the beautiful patterns on the glasses and how each one has a different design. We are avid gin drinkers so these are a perfect size. Such a gorgeous gift!

Like I have already said, both Mr RV and I love our gin. We also love chocolate orange so when I opened this gin made by The Handmade Gin Company, I squealed…just a little bit. We of course tried it straight away and it is super tasty. Such a treat at Christmas time.

I have always worn high street perfume and one of my favourite fragrances is ‘New York’ from Marks and Spencer. I love that my mum got me a smaller hand bag size one and then a cute little gift set too. For me, this is a classic and sophisticated scent and one I can wear every day.

Mr RV did a really good job with these gorgeous gifts from ESPA. I had heard such good things about ESPA and I was slightly influenced by a few content creators to try the brand but now I can really see why. The big box is their Restorative Body Oil. I wanted a body oil that smelt like being at a spa and this just fills the room with the most gorgeous smell. The gorgeous green box was full of little minis to try and include a pink hair and scalp mud mask, a shower gel, skin rescue balm, overnight hydration therapy and their Tri-Active resilience pro-biome serum. As if this wasn’t enough, Mr RV also bought me their lip balm. I can’t wait to try out all of these products and report back to you all about how I have found them. You can shop ESPA here.

These gorgeous Liberty print face masks were a gift from my parents and they are stunning. Each mask comes in its own Liberty branded bag, a small pack of Tic Tacs and an anti-viral wipe. Such pretty prints and I love the attention to detail.

I was so lucky to receive another couple of gorgeous skin care gift sets! Firstly, the ‘Radiance Wild Rose’ set from Neal’s Yard Remedies. It includes a body elixir, a radiance boost beauty elixir and a balm to give your skin that natural glow. I have never used anything from this brand before but I can’t wait to try it all out. I love rose products for the skin. Secondly, my brother got me this set from Origins and this is something I was so excited to open. I had been using the energy-boosting gel moisturiser for a month or so and when I ran out I popped it onto my wish list. This set includes the gel moisturiser, the tinted moisturiser, a scrub cleanser and an eye cream! Best brother ever! You can shop Origins here.

Finally, I asked for a new Filofax this year. As a teacher, and a generally organised individual, I use a Filofax daily. This is such soft, beautiful leather and I love the colour. You can shop Filofax here.

I really hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas despite everything going on in the world at the moment. Sending so much love to you all.

August Favourites

Good afternoon guys. It’s that time again where I bring you a bunch of my favourite products for August. So without further ado, here they are!

First up is the Robinsons Crushed Lime & Mint fruit cordial. Guys! This is so good. It is the perfect summery drink and we have got through so many bottles of this. So tasty!

Next is the Wilkin & Sons ‘Old Times’ orange marmalade. I have always liked marmalade but this one is definitely my favourite. Since lockdown, I have really got in to having marmalade on sourdough bread. Now I can’t function in the morning without it…and a coffee of course!

I have been working with Dermalogica for over a year now as a #skinfluencer and every time they send me one of their new products it feels like Christmas. The Hydro Masque Exfoliant arrived the other day and I have used it three times already. This is such an amazing product with these amazing spheres which exfoliates with bamboo and hydrates with snow mushroom. You work the spheres into your skin until they disappear and leave the product on for five minutes before washing off. I am a huge fan! New favourite!

We found a new TV series on Netflix and we absolutely loved it! I watched season one of Dirty John by myself but we watched the second series together which is about Betty Broderick. So gripping and really good if you are looking for a new short series to watch.

I was kindly sent these products by Love Raw who make the BEST vegan chocolate ever! I had never tried vegan chocolate before but now, I would choose to get this instead of non-vegan chocolate. There was another one they sent me but I ate it before I got this photo! Pop on over to their website to see their full range https://eatloveraw.com

This is my second Dr Paw Paw product in the last two months and I love this peachy colour. Honestly, since finding this brand I can’t believe I was using anything different for blush and a tinted lip stain. This product is smaller than the bright orange one I have but goes everywhere with me in my handbag. Such a gorgeous colour!

I was on the hunt for a good top coat as I am getting back into painting my nails again! I found this one by Essie. It is the Couture Gel Top Coat and is such a great top coat for keeping a colour on. The reason why I never really paint my nails with a colour is because I hate when my colour chips. I have had the colour on for a few days now with this top coat on and I have painted a bathroom, got out in the garden and done other DIY bits. Not a single chip yet!

Indeora sent me their coconut and vanilla deodorant to try and I have been using it for the last two weeks. It is vegan and cruelty free, is a unique and natural magnesium formula and this bottle is supposed to last up to 3 months with 400 sprays. The smell is gorgeous! The one thing I would say is you need to persevere with it. I would also say that if you shave under your arms to not spray on straight away and to wait for an hour or so before popping it on. A very good natural deodorant. Thank you guys for sending it to me. Here is their website https://www.indeora.com/

Finally is this gorgeous loungewear set from Marks and Spencer. When I saw this I ordered it straight away and boy am I glad I did! I am living in this whilst at home. It makes me feel like I am dressed for the day but super comfy. You can also get a short sleeve top to go with the bottoms. I have linked all of the pieces below:
