October Favourites

Good morning and happy half term. I feel like I say this every month but as if it is the end of October already! Here are my October favourites 💫 *some products have been gifted and some links are affiliate links

First up is the Dermalogica Daily Microfiliant. This has been my go-to exfoliator for the past year or so. As I work with Dermalogica, I am extremely lucky to have received this as pr but have also purchased in-between being gifted it. I use this every day and it is a fantastic gentle exfoliator which leaves your skin feeling smooth and squeaky clean. One of my favourites!

*all aff links Here are a couple of makeup bits I have enjoyed using this month. I have talked about the Glow Cherie base layer I use before but I picked it up in a darker shade this month. I only use a little bit as I mix it in with a moisturiser before applying. You can shop it here: https://amzn.to/3CqVG3K I love a dewy finish so I picked up this setting spray again from NYX. This is the third time I have bought this and it really gives you that glow. If you want to buy, here is a link https://amzn.to/3jHXNJc Finally, this Burt’s Bees lip balm is perfect over lipstick or also just on its own. It smells incredible and I just love their lip balms 🌿 https://amzn.to/3nD3qtf

I wanted to mention a few interiors brands I have been loving recently over on Instagram.

Cedar & South have the most beautiful pieces and I will be bringing you all something really exciting in collaboration with Jennie over on my Instagram in the next week or so. Here is their website: https://cedarandsouth.co.uk/ *image taken from website

House of Neutrals is another stunning brand I discovered recently and they have the best selection of pillows. If you love neutral tones, then you need to check their products out 🤍 https://www.houseofneutrals.com/ *image taken from website

I recently bought some new pieces from Scandi Minimal and was so pleased with my purchases. They have such a great selection of products from homeware to children’s items. Here is the link to their website to have a browse https://www.scandiminimal.com/ *image taken from website

And that is it for this month! October has flown by and I honestly cannot believe we are almost in November. I don’t know about you but I have been a little slower thinking about Christmas this year – that isn’t to say I haven’t been pinning ideas like mad! I will be writing a whole blog post all about what we are planning on doing this year with our decor, our tree and little hacks to save money so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Have a lovely day and take care.

August Favourites

Good afternoon everyone and happy Wednesday. It’s time for this month’s favourites. I can’t believe how quickly this month has gone. I will be back in the full swing of teaching in no time at all! As always, some items mentioned in this blog post are gifted and will be marked with a *

Let’s start with a couple of beauty products and a new moisturiser from Dermalogica*.

I am not wearing my mask as frequently as I was before my second vaccine so I am now wearing lipstick again! I found this liner and lipstick on Amazon from KIKO for great affordable prices and I love the shades for autumn. This is their ‘Smart Fusion Lipstick’ in shade 405 and the liner is shade 303. The liner is a little darker than the lipstick so you do have to make sure you blend it in with a gloss or a balm. They last well on your lips and I love the darker shade for the colder months to come.

Dermalogica kindly sent me their new product as a #skinfluener and I have been using it for a week or so now. Their new ‘Biolumin C-Gel Moisturizer’ does exactly what it says it does. On the first application, my skin looked radiant, glowing and felt amazing. I mix a drop into my tinted cc serum as part of my daily makeup routine too which gives me that weightless glowy base. I am really going to enjoy using this in autumn to maintain that holiday-like glowing skin.

Over the summer holidays I have really let me nails grow out as during term time I normally completely neglect them! I found some really gorgeous floral stickers on Amazon which you apply using tweezers and seal with a clear topcoat. I always put on a nail strengthener before I do anything else and this helps encourage growth and prevents breakage. I used the cherry blossom stickers for this manicure but there are so many to choose from in the pack I picked up – sunflowers, purple flowers, black and white flowers. It does take a bit of time and patience let me tell you but my nails feel fresh and it’s just a bit of fun.

Next up are some new additions to the master bedroom. I was so lucky to work with two beautiful interiors brands this month – Cotswold Grey* and Champagne & Ginger*. I was gifted this elm stool and blue cashmere throw from Cotswold Grey and then these belly baskets from Champagne & Ginger. They work so well together and make our bedroom feel cosy and ready for the new season.

Finally, I wanted to mention ‘The Midnight Library’ again by Matt Haig. It has been such a joy to read and I couldn’t recommend it more. If you haven’t read it, you need to!

Have a lovely day guys and I’ll be back on the blog next week with an autumn fashion post so turn on email notifications if you don’t want to miss that.

July Favourites

Good afternoon everyone. I hope you have all been holding up in this heat! I’m definitely enjoying the cooler weather. It’s the summer holidays and therefore I have a little bit more time on my hands for my blog so here is July’s monthly favourites. There’s a real mixture of bits and bobs in this blog from skincare to interiors, book and TV recommendations. There are no photographs in this blog – it is just a chatty post. *contains some pr products

First up is this Smart Response Serum from Dermalogica. This is my holy grail at the moment and I use it every night in my evening skincare routine. The serum works with your skin using SmartResponse technology to hydrate, soothe, brighten and firm. Each time you use it, the product gives you a personalised response and gives your skin what it needs. I have been using this for around a month now and my skin is brighter and healthier-looking. I also used the skin analyser available on the Dermalogica website which is amazing, giving you some tips on what areas of your skin need that extra bit of TLC.

Sticking with skincare, I get asked quite a lot over on my Instagram about what makeup products I use in the summer months. I have been using the SunSense Daily Face SPF50+ with an invisible tint finish and that is my base. It isn’t oily and the SPF is amazing. For the evening and if I were to go out out, I use the No7 Skin Illuminator and this gives you a beautiful glow. In previous blog posts I have also mentioned the Glow Cherie by L’Oreal which I am not using at the moment but it is a great dupe for the By Terry CC Serum.

Next, I wanted to mention a local interiors brand in Broadway called At Home With The Rudds. When my partner and I visited a couple of weeks ago we just fell in love with everything they had to offer. They are on Instagram -@athomewiththerudds if you want to check them out.

I don’t read as much as I should but I recently bought ‘The Midnight Library’ by Matt Haig. I am about half the way through it and it is SO good. It is one of those books I find myself thinking about when I am not reading it. It’s definitely worth the read and I know it is on some of your summer reading lists already.

Another small and local business I thought I should feature is Margaret Poppy Jewellery. Based in Cheltenham, the brand offers gorgeous jewellery which tells a story and some of their pieces are stunning. I was kindly gifted the gorgeous Matilda huggie hoops which you can find on my feed and over at @margaret_poppy_jewellery on Instagram.

Finally, I am binge watching ‘The Handmaids Tale’ and I am obsessed. I watched season 1 and 2 religiously but I am now catching up season 3 and the new season on Channel 4. If you are looking for a new series, I would highly recommend this!

Have a lovely Sunday and fingers crossed we get the sun back soon!

May Favourites

Good morning everyone and happy Friday! I’m sorry that my monthly favourites blog is coming out a few days late. It’s been a busy half term and I am finally getting some time to write this blog post so without further ado, let’s get into this months favourites. *This blog post contains gifted items.

Let’s talk beauty and skincare. First up, a trusty favourite from No 7 – the skin illuminator. Now the weather is getting warmer, I try to wear less makeup on my skin and this is perfect for that light coverage. I use the Simple booster drops with SPF 30 first and then pop this over the top. The two products together give you a gorgeous glow whilst protecting your skin from UV rays. As part of my summer makeup routine, I also like to use the Burts Bees All Aglow. It is THE only bronzer I use in the summer months – it isn’t drying or cakey and just adds that bit of extra warmth to your complexion.

Next up is this gorgeous Barry M nail varnish. I absolutely love a dark red toe nail in the summer months and this was just what I was looking for. This is the shade ‘French Rose’ and they have a few other gorgeous pinky tones in their ‘Rose Tinted’ range.

Last up for this month’s skincare favourites is the Typology charcoal mask with organic nettle *gifted/pr. I have been a huge fan of Typology for a while and have mentioned them in a few of my blogs. This mask is refreshing, thick and leaves my skin feeling so clean and replenished. Active ingredients are stinging nettle, green clay and pine charcoal. I love how organic and natural this skincare brand is – definitely one to check out!

I wanted to mention a pair of trainers I was kindly gifted by Gabor – these are their Wilma design and they are so versatile. In one of my recent blogs about dresses and sneakers, I talked about how I always struggled with what to wear on my feet in the spring months. Now, I always turn to a gorgeous pair of trainers. Check out that blog post here.

Finally, these gorgeous blue striped cushions from Lavendar Coast Interiors had to be featured in my monthly favourites blog. Click here for their Instagram. I was extremely lucky to work with this beautiful interiors company recently over on my Instagram page. I ran a giveaway where someone could win their own Portscatho and Portloe cushions. Unfortunately, these are both sold out now but keep an eye on what is next to come from this amazing country and coastal interiors brand.

I hope you all have a great weekend and sending lots of love.

November Favourites

Good morning guys and happy Saturday! I hope everyone is OK in this second lockdown. I am making the most of the slow weekends again and trying to see the positives. I mean, I get to sit on my sofa and binge watch Netflix without feeling guilty I guess.

It is that time of the month where I share some of my favourite products with you all and just in time for Christmas too.

First up are these three beauty/skincare products in the photograph above. Dermalogica kindly sent me their Phyto Replenish Body Oil which comes in this stunning bottle with a rollerball for application. Like all Dermalogica products I write about on my blog or share on my Instagram, there is no obligation to post but to be as transparent as possible I will always declare it as a PR product. This oil smells INCREDIBLE with infusions of Fermented Red Ginseng , bright Bergamot, Neroli, Orange, Patchouli and Sandalwood. I tried it this morning and honestly…it is up there with one of my favourite products that I have received as a #skinfluencer. A huge thank you Dermalogica!

Next up is this gorgeous lip colour from Rimmel. Now, this has got to be the cheapest lipstick I have bought but also the best for colour. I have always loved pink and nude shades for my lips and this lipstick – shade 45 is just perfect. It is less than £3 on Amazon! Such a bargain.

This blush by Bourjois in shade 10 Golden Chesnut is the perfect shade for autumn and winter. I love the warm undertones of it and it gives that pop of glowy colour on your cheeks. I picked this up again on Amazon.

Steering away from makeup and skincare and moving onto interiors, I had been looking for ages for some faux eucalyptus that looked real. I ordered 6 stems which were just under £20 and I am so pleased with them. They are such great quality and I have even had to put some of them away in storage as 3 stems was enough to fill my vase. You can find the product here on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B085DJFYMP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The lamp in the photograph above is also on my favourites list this month. Again, I spent hours trawling the internet for a perfect neutral lamp for our living space and then I saw this one! It is so simple and so pretty and just fits in with our décor. It was under £30 so a good price too for a sturdy, ceramic lamp. Here is the link to it on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07Z9FXLF9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Another favourite this month is ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ over on Netflix. It was definitely something I was apprehensive about watching as I have no idea how you play chess, but it is so good. Definitely worth a watch if you are at home on the sofa!

I hope you have a lovely day and I will speak to you soon x

October Favourites

Good afternoon guys. I was sat all snuggled up under blankets om my sofa, listening to the rain and I remembered that I needed to write my monthly favourites blog post. Here are the products that cut the mustard for me this month.

First up is the Revlon ColourStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick in shade ‘Socialite’. I am constantly looking for lipsticks and lip stains that last more than the second cup of coffee in a day. I saw that this had good reviews online so I thought I would try it out and I am so glad I did. This is literally what I have been looking for this whole time! It lasts in-between endless cups of coffee and all of those cakes I should definitely not be eating. It comes in so many different shades. I picked mine up on Amazon for £8.99.

Next is this nail polish from No7 in shade ‘Tangy’. I love a bright nail colour for the festive period and this one was just so bright and such a statement. I am normally somebody who wears nudes all year round but I fell in love with this. I actually got this on eBay and picked it up for £5.49.

Another eBay purchase is the Origins Ginzing Oil-Free Energy Boosting Gel Moisturiser. I was totally influenced to try this so I picked up a smaller sample size first. Let me tell you, this has made the Christmas want list this year! It smells delicious and it has made such a difference to the brightness of my skin. I picked up this little bottle for £7.99. Perhaps a little pricey but I wanted to try it out first before buying the bigger tub.

Finally is the Maybelline Lash Sensational in shade ‘Very Black’. I have been using this mascara for as long as I can remember now but this month was the first time I tried the ‘very black’ shade. There isn’t a huge different between ‘black’ and ‘very black’ but you don’t have to apply as many coats to get a full fan effect. Again, this is something else I got on Amazon for about £5.

I am off to have another coffee, do a spot of Christmas shopping and maybe…have a nap. It is half term after all! I hope you all have a lovely afternoon and I will catch up with you all soon. x

Autumn/Winter Skincare

Happy weekend guys and what a miserable day it is outside. I thought I would update my blog as it has been a hot minute since I have.

Autumn and winter are my favourite months of the year. I love the smells, the colours, the chunky knits and the biker boots. Curling up on the sofa under a blanket with a hot chocolate is where you’ll find me most autumnal evenings.

With the colder months, my skincare routine needs switching up a little bit so I thought I would share that with you all.

Shower and Bath

In the shower I am using the Sanctuary Spa Body Wash and 2 Day Long Lasting Moisture Shower Oil. Essential oils and jojoba beads in the body wash lather up when used and smell delicious! I then use the oil which is a blend of gold of pleasure oil and omega’s 3, 6 and 9. I had never used an in-shower oil before but it really does leave your skin feeling nourished and silky soft. Both products feel really luxurious and I love that they smell like you are at a spa! I picked up both on Amazon. I also like to use a loofah exfoliating glove. This one is from Hydrea London and it makes such a different to my skin when I use it. I also got this from Amazon. I am waiting on the Sanctuary Spa Body Scrub Exfoliator to arrive so I will be sure to share my thoughts on that once I have used it a few times. I love an exfoliator!

It is so easy to neglect your skin in the shower and just use all of the products afterwards but it really does make a difference looking after it when showering or bathing. Talking of baths, I rarely have them but when I do I love to use Imperial Leather and my favourite right now is Moroccan Sunset. It smells divine!

Face and Body

After the shower, I lather myself up in Neutrogena’s Visibly Renew moisturiser. I only ever really use Neutrogena for body moisturisers as I love how thick they are – great for the colder months. Then I will either use the Dermalogica Barrier Defense Booster, which is a concentrated oil booster that helps to restore balance to sensitive skin, or the Typology Organic Sweet Almond Oil. Sweet Almond improves skin health as it is high in Vitamin E and has rejuvenating antioxidant properties. (I was kindly sent both of these oils as PR Products).

I have been trying a new all day tinted moisturiser from SunSense which has SPF 50+. It is their daily face product and I love it! When I saw this had a tint in it and a high SPF I just had to try it. This product also contains Vitamin E which helps with a whole heap of things, including reducing the appearance of fine lines. As I am getting older I am realising how important it is to protect your skin so I no longer use a foundation or a base in the day- I just use this.

Before bed, I use my trusty favourite Polaar Night Revitalizing Mask. Polaar are such an incredible company who I have worked with in the past and I love their products. This night mask is like sleep in a bottle. My skin the next morning after using this just feels brand new and well cared for. (Previous PR Product).

Et voila! That is my autumn/winter skincare change up. Have a great Saturday!

Dermalogica

Last month I was lucky enough to join the Dermalogica family as a #skinfluencer. After using some of Dermalogica’s products in my skin routine for a month now, I thought I would write a blog post about what I love about them, how I use them and how they have worked for me.

I use the products below in the order I have written about them and I use them every other day in my skin routine. I will link all of the products too.

  1. Precleanse

This product is one of favourites from Dermalogica. I use one pump of this oil-busting emulsifyer and rub it into my skin in a circular motion. It melts away any waterproof mascara, sun cream and build up on your skin. I love using this because it makes my skin feel so clean after use.

precleanse

2. Special Cleansing Gel

After I use the Precleanse, I use this gentle foaming cleanser. It lathers up really well with water and contains naturally-foaming Quillaja Saponaria which gently rinses away any dirt or debris on your skin. Some days I will only use this product if I don’t have time for a full skin care routine. This is a great face wash for every day.

special cleansing gel

3. Daily Microfiliant

This is an amazing product! I have tried so many different exfoliators for the face but this one just beats all of them. It is a bit pricey however it is the one exfoliator I have used that really deeply cleans. Rice-based powder activates upon contact with water, releasing Papain, Salicylic Acid and Rice Enzymes to polish skin to perfection. I have to say that after using this for a month three or four times a week my skin has been glowy, smooth and flawless. This is an award winning product and I can see why!

daily microfoliant

4. Skin Smoothing Cream

Some days I will just pop this on after I have used the gel and I really love this moisturiser. It’s a new product from Dermalogica and it features state-of-the-art Active HydraMesh Technology™ to infuse skin with 48 hours of continuous hydration and help protect against environmental stress. It does what it says on the tin and my skin stays feeling hydrated after a night of sleep for the day if I have used it in the evening.

skin smoothing cream

5. SkinPerfect SPF30 Primer

I do not tend to use this with the moisturiser because I felt when I did that I had layered too much onto my face. This is one of the best primers I have used for even and smooth coverage. Also the fact that it has SPF30 is just amazing! It keeps make up in place all day and with its velvety feel it creates a smooth surface for your skin.

skinperfect primer spf30

*I have not been asked to write this by Dermalogica and in no way am I not affiliated with any of the links above.* I just wanted to write an honest review about an amazing skincare brand that I have absolutely loved using. Yes, it is a little pricey but it is totally worth it and I have seen such amazing results.

Size Matters

Minis. Let’s talk about them. Who else takes all the minis with them when they check out of a hotel? I have a whole bag full of the most divine minis from L’Occitane and just can’t bring myself to use them unless it’s for a weekend away or a little holiday somewhere.

I was gifted a L’Occitane advent calendar a few years ago and boy was I missing out before. The products are beautiful and there is such a variety I couldn’t believe it.

Here are some of my favourite products from L’Occitane.

From moisturisers to shower gels and hand creams to perfumes, the collection in the advent calendar is one of the best I have seen in beauty and skin care advent calendars.

Perfumes: Néroli & Orchidée, Terre de Lumière, Verbena and Arlésienne. I bought full bottles of  Arlésienne and Néroli & Orchidée which I originally purchased as my wedding fragrance. All the perfumes are very different and I would definitely recommend L’Occitane if anyone wanted to try a new scent. The bottles are so convenient to take on  nights out, on a date to freshen up and just to keep in your handbag.

Other faves are the Comforting Cream, Immortelle Cleansing Oil, Essential Water, Ultra Rich Lotion, Shower Cream, Milk Concentrate with Almond Milk and Relaxing Shower Gel. The Divine Youth Oil was another favourite but I used it all up.

Even though they are minis, they go a long way. L’Occitane products are high quality and are some of the best higher end skin care products I have used. I know December is a few months away yet but keep your eyes peeled for their new sets this year.

Featured #1

Since starting my blogging journey I have been spending a lot of time creating my own content, telling my story and writing about what I love. In addition to this, I have also been really inspired by other bloggers and their content.

With that being said, I want to write a featured blog once a month showcasing bloggers and Instagram accounts that I am loving at the moment. These ladies all have their own stories and their content is just beautiful. From fashion to beauty, lifestyle to travel, interiors to make up – I wanted to share their stories with you because they are really worth reading about. Please use the links to follow their blogs and Insta pages.

Name: Sarah Jane Hitchings
Age: 34
How long have you had @cotswoldscottage for?
I’ve had my home account for just over a month, started 08.02.19 (I’ve been on insta personally for a few years).
Why did you decided to start the account?
I was following lots of home accounts and find interiors really interesting. I’m proud of my home and thought if I shared it I would inspire more to make more changes and be bolder.
Top 3 tips
1. Research similar accounts and look at what hashtags they use
2. Comment on posts you like as often as possible. It’s lovely to receive a comment on your post.
3. Take a few photos at different angles to get the right one for the post. Then leave them in your camera roll for another time.

How long have you had @myunsecretmumdiary for?
About 18 months.
Why did you decided to start the account?
I decided to go into blogging because I wanted to share my struggles with depression initially, then when time passed and I became pregnant and happier I wanted to share my mum-to-be style. Now it’s mainly about the fashion because it’s my first love (but I still to and fro from mental health because it’s a struggle for me and very much important to me).
Top 3 tips
1. Patience, seriously. It doesn’t happen overnight. And it’s OK if you take a few breaks here and there, just cut yourself some slack and come back to it when you’re ready.
2.  Stay true to you- it’s not rewarding if you don’t do you. You can’t post about things you don’t believe in. Style is individual so post about the styles and subjects you really love, and nothing else! That’s what makes it uplifting.
3. Know what’s good and bad for you. It’s a learning curve. It’s all well and good following thousands of people but you want those people to really be other bloggers you believe in and enjoy following. Following a load of people that make you feel bad about yourself (through no fault of their own) because they give you major life envy or amplify personal insecurities can be addictive but it’s not good for you mentally. Focus on the people that make you feel good!

Name: Kate
How long have you had @kandid_withak for?
I took an interest in photography 4/5 years ago, but just started blog recently – been a goal to start travel blog for a while now and finally had the opportunity to do so, with a bit of encouragement from a good friend!
Why did you decided to start the account?
I enjoy taking pictures and love writing. A few friends had been asking me for travel tips for various places across the globe so thought it would be a great idea to write a blog that can help others with their travels. I also found many travel blogs useful in finding hidden secrets of a destination and all the best cafes.
Top 3 tips
1. Plan your time effectively to fit around your normal working hours – stay organised.
2. Focus on area that you have a real passion for and make this come across in your writing.
3. Just do it! Don’t be afraid of other people’s opinions – if you enjoy it, then that is all that matters. Just dive in at the deep end!

How long have you had @erin_angela_xo for?
I have been blogging for for approximately two and a half years. I began my blog in the summer of 2016.
Why did you decided to start the account?
I’ve always loved makeup and fashion. I regularly read blogs and magazines such as Cosmopolitan and Vogue, which inspired me to start researching blogging. I decided to begin my blog as a way to share my own makeup tips, product reviews and makeup tutorials.
Top 3 tips
1. Identify your niche. Will you blog about beauty, home decor or fashion? Identifying your niche early in your blogging journey is a great way to get started.
2. Don’t give up – Blogging takes time and effort. It can become frustrating when you first start blogging, but it becomes easier with time and practice!
3. An editorial calendar is a lifesaver – About a week after I started my blog, I developed an editorial calendar to identify when and what to post. An editorial calendar not only kept my content organized, but it was a helpful tool to keep my ideas and inspiration flowing.

How long have you had @abigailkathleenlondon for?
3 years
Why did you decided to start the account?
I started blogging when I was severely depressed, I had read a magazine about mental health bloggers and a friend of mine Tanya is also a blogger. I decided to set up my own London lifestyle blog as a distraction, to keep me busy and creative. I fell in love with creating content, it allowed me to continue my photography as more than a hobby.
Top 3 tips
1. You don’t need flashy laptops and cameras. I have run my blog from my phone and iPad. A laptop does make life easier but don’t feel you need to spend a fortune on one.
2. Everything you need to know is free on Google and YouTube such as photo editing and SEO. I am always reading new articles about SEO through Google on my bus journeys.
3. Do not focus on what others are doing. Spend more time on creating content you love and the numbers and opportunities will eventually follow but be patient! Nothing happens overnight. I didn’t get my first opportunity until I had been blogging for 7 months. At the end of every post have a unique sign off and a little sentence to encourage readers to hit that follow button and a link to follow you on your preferred social platform (IG, FB etc)

Blogging is a community and a great platform to connect with new people. I am so glad to have found these women and hopefully sharing their stories has inspired you as much as it has me.
