Saying Yes to the Dress

Good morning and happy Sunday. I hope that you have all had a good weekend so far. We don’t have many plans today other than lots of yummy food and a Below Deck marathon ⚓ I wanted to put together another wedding post and thought it might be helpful to other brides to talk you through my experience of finding my dress.

For those of you who don’t know, this was my second time doing this. I was planning a wedding many years ago now and had bought a dress then. When I started the search this time around, I really wanted to try and find something on the high street but after lots of looking, I couldn’t find it. I really didn’t want to go to any bridal boutiques but my mum found one that stocked a good range of dresses I hadn’t come across before. I booked an appointment and I’m so glad I did.

The one and only boutique I visited was the one I found my dress in. I was asked to put little wooden hearts onto hangers of dresses I wanted to try on. I only put on one and that was my dress. I was encouraged to try more on which to be honest, because I had done this before, I didn’t really want to do but thought I should just in case. When I tried on my dress I knew it was the one (so cliché I know). I also bought the veil I tried on with it but since then have changed my mind and will be returning it and swapping it for another I have ordered in.

After the wedding I will share every last detail – the designer, where I got it from, why I chose it, accessories, bridesmaids dresses and what the groomsmen wore. For now, here are my 3 top tips for those of you who are looking for your wedding dress 👰🏻

  1. Most bridal boutiques operate on an appointment only basis. I am getting married in May and I found my dress in July. Ask about lead times and make sure to check the list of designers they stock on their website so that you have an idea of what types of dresses they have in store.
  2. High street dresses are definitely worth looking into if you are wanting to spend less. However, I would highly recommend seeing them in person before ordering online.
  3. Try on all styles. The dress I chose for my last wedding is extremely different to this one. I went to my appointment with three words in my mind that I wanted my dress to be: elegant, flowy and romantic. Perhaps try this and only say yes to the dress if it is something that ticks all of those boxes. When you have it on, you’ll know!

I hope you all have a lovely day and catch up soon,

R x
